Kelechi Iheanacho Shares Story Behind “Senior Man” Nickname
Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho has revealed the origin of his nickname “Senior Man” in an interview with Sevilla FC’s club website. The Super Eagles star, who recently joined the seven-time Europa League champions, explained that the nickname was given to him by his friends Wilfred Ndidi and Daniel Amartey.
According to Iheanacho, the trio were walking together when Ndidi and Amartey started calling him “Senior Man”. They joked about it and made videos, which soon led to everyone calling him by the nickname.
Iheanacho joined Sevilla FC after his contract with Leicester City expired on June 30. Despite receiving offers from several European clubs, he chose Sevilla due to their clear vision for him and the club’s achievements.
“I was certain that I wanted to come here because of the football environment and the club’s achievements,” Iheanacho said. “I’m excited to embrace this opportunity and give it my all.”
Iheanacho is the second Nigerian to join Sevilla this summer, following Chidera Ejuke. He is known for his creativity on the field and is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s top players.
