20 Million Nigerians Living With Hepatitis Risk Liver Cancer — Project Pink Blue Africa
A staggering 20 million Nigerians living with hepatitis virus are at risk of developing liver cancer, warns Project Pink Blue Africa, a public health advocacy organisation.
Speaking at a community outreach event in Abuja to commemorate the 2024 World Hepatitis Day, Executive Director Runcie Chidebe highlighted the alarming situation, citing poor access to information, vaccines, and screening services as contributing factors.
To combat this, Project Pink Blue Africa has launched the “Choke Liver Cancer” campaign in collaboration with other health advocacy organisations, targeting 200,000 Nigerians in rural communities with Hepatitis B virus and liver cancer services.
The campaign aims to save lives and improve health outcomes in Nigeria, where hepatitis is a significant risk factor for liver cancer – the fifth leading cause of cancer death in the country.
