Rivers Launches Ambitious New Port City Project In Eleme, Paving The Way For A Smart And Sustainable Future
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has flagged off the construction of the New Port City in Eleme, marking the beginning of a new phase of building new cities outside Port Harcourt, the state capital. At the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, Governor Fubara, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, described the New Port City as a smart city that will be one of its kind in this part of the world.
The New Port City, to be developed by Rainbow Heritage Group Limited, promises to be a self-sustaining metropolis, boasting an impressive array of features, including port infrastructure, residential districts, commercial agriculture, small and medium scale industries, commercial districts, social facilities, 24-hour independent power supply, roads with bicycle and pedestrian ways, water, solid waste, and sewage treatment, parks, and landscapes.
Governor Fubara announced plans to amend the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority law to support the new cities project, with another project slated for the Eleme axis. The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Eleme Local Government, Chief Brain Gokpa, praised the governor for finding Eleme worthy to host such an ambitious project, promising that the people of Eleme would own the project and provide necessary support for its success.
Hon. Oji Ngofa, leader of the Simplified Movement in Eleme, described the project as the Magnus Opus in the development of Eleme, stating that it will provide the missing link in infrastructure and human capacity development in the area. Dr. Tonte Davis, Acting Administrator of Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, said the New Port City is a milestone in the history of Rivers State.
The New Port City is the third tripod of the Greater Port Harcourt City master plan, after the old Port Harcourt city and the airport axis. With this project, Governor Fubara is poised to leave a lasting legacy in Rivers State, transforming the region into a hub of economic growth and sustainability

ExxonMobil Boosts Guyana Oil Output, Guyana Offers Free Tuition Ahead of Elections
ExxonMobil Guyana has announced plans to increase oil production from its Stabroek block by 18,000 barrels per day (bpd). The capacity of the Unity floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel will increase from 252,000 bpd to 270,000 bpd, pending approval from local authorities. ExxonMobil Guyana currently produces 665,000 bpd, and future developments include the Hammerhead project, which aims to produce 120,000-180,000 bpd. The company’s investment is set to further strengthen Guyana’s economy as it grows into a major oil producer.
In political developments, President Irfaan Ali has announced several benefits ahead of Guyana’s upcoming elections. The new incentives include free college tuition and a one-time cash handout of nearly $1,000 per household, benefiting 264,000 families. The minimum wage will also increase from $350 to $500 starting next year, aimed at reducing the cost of living for Guyanese citizens.
Guyana’s economy, bolstered by its growing oil sector, saw a remarkable 60% GDP growth in 2022, the highest in the world, according to the IMF. To further utilize oil revenues, the government is launching various infrastructure projects, including hospitals, schools, and a $1.9 billion gas-to-energy initiative.
At the same time, the 115th COTED meeting on agriculture in CARICOM is tackling challenges like climate change and underdeveloped agricultural value chains, working towards the 25 by 2025 Food Security Initiative.

Tinubu, Remi, and Akpabio Mock Nigerians’ Hardship Amid Economic Crisis
As Nigerians face mounting economic hardship from soaring petrol prices and inflation, leaders like President Tinubu, Senate President Akpabio, and Remi Tinubu make insensitive remarks that mock the suffering populace. President Tinubu claims his neoliberal reforms will benefit Nigerians in the future, while Akpabio dismisses citizens fleeing the country’s economic downturn as unpatriotic. With an already devastated middle class and rising poverty, these tone-deaf responses intensify frustrations.
