Uzodinma Saves Imo Girls from Ghanian Sex Trafficking Nightmare
The Eze Igbo Ghana, Ohene Igbo, has commended Governor Hope Uzodinma for his role in rescuing the Imo girls who were victims of human trafficking in Ghana. The girls, aged between 15 and 18, were reportedly lured from
their homes in Imo State with promises of better lives and employment opportunities in Ghana. Instead, they were
forced into prostitution and domestic servitude.
According to reports, the girls were tricked by a syndicate of human traffickers who preyed on their vulnerabilities. They were transported to Ghana and held captive in a hotel in Accra, where they were subjected to physical and emotional abuse. The rescue operation was carried out after a public outcry on social media, which caught the attention of the authorities.
The Imo State Government, led by Uzodinma, collaborated with the Ghanaian Police, the Acting
Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, and the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization to successfully rescue the girls. Ohene Igbo praised Uzodinma for his timely intervention, describing him as a leader with a functional conscience. He also commended the Ghanaian authorities for their cooperation and support in the rescue operation. The rescued girls have been taken into protective custody and are receiving medical and psychological care. The traffickers are currently being investigated and prosecuted.
