Military Warns Against Planned Protest, Cites Kenya-Style Anarchy
Police Targets Vulcaniser Shops In Tyre Seizure
The Nigerian military has issued a stern warning against a planned protest, stating that it has the potential to degenerate into Kenya-style anarchy. The military expressed concerns that the protest could lead to widespread chaos and violence, similar to the youth-led anti government finance bill protest in Kenya in June.
“The planned protest has all the ingredients of a Kenya-style anarchy, and we will not fold our arms and watch our dear nation slide into chaos,” the statement read.
The military warned that it would not hesitate to take decisive action against anyone who participates in the planned protest or engages in any activity that threatens national security.
“We will not allow any group or individual to truncate the peace and stability of our nation. We will do everything within our power to ensure that our country remains peaceful and secure,” the statement added.
The planned protest, according to the military, is being orchestrated by individuals and groups with ulterior motives. The military alleged that these individuals and groups are seeking to exploit the current challenges facing the country for their own selfish interests.
“The planned protest is not a genuine attempt to express grievances, but rather a ploy to create chaos and undermine the government’s efforts to address the country’s challenges,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, in a bid to forestall the planned protest against the current economic hardship in the country, the Nigerian Police Force has vowed to seize tyres from vulcaniser shops across the nation. The move, which has been widely condemned by civil society groups and opposition parties, is seen as a desperate attempt to suppress dissenting voices.
The protest, which is scheduled to take place from August 1, is aimed at drawing attention to the worsening economic conditions in the country, including rising inflation, unemployment, and poverty. The organisers of the protest have called on Nigerians to come out en masse and express their discontent with the government’s handling of the economy
