Foreign Governments Warn Of Violence During August 1 Protest
The United States, United Kingdom, and Canada have issued travel alerts warning of potential violence during the planned #EndBadGovernance protest on August 1 in Nigeria.
The three countries cautioned their nationals in Nigeria to avoid areas where protests may occur, citing past incidents of clashes between security agencies and protesters.
The advisories come as market leaders in various states, including Abuja, Sokoto, Kano, Katsina, Ogun, Osun, Zamfara, and Gombe, have requested increased security presence around markets during the protests.
The US Embassy in Nigeria warned, “Demonstrations can turn violent with little notice, and security services may use force to disperse protesters.”
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office advised, “You should avoid areas where protests are taking place and be aware of your surroundings at all times.”
The Canadian government cautioned, “Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place, as they can turn violent without notice.”
The warnings highlight concerns about potential violence and unrest during the planned protests, and the need for caution and vigilance
