Peter Obi Slams Seizure Of Presidential Jets As “International Embarrassment”
Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi has condemned the seizure of three Presidential Jets by a French Court, calling it an “international embarrassment” that exposes Nigeria’s failed leadership and disregard for the rule of law.
Obi criticized the secrecy surrounding the purchase and sale of Presidential jets, which he said is a property of the Nigerian people. He expressed dismay that Nigerians had no knowledge of the transactions until a French court prohibited the movement or sale of the jets.
He also slammed the federal government’s insensitivity for buying a Presidential jet despite the country’s economic hardship, with Nigeria being the poverty capital of the world, having more out-ofschool children, and experiencing over 40% food inflation.
Obi questioned the extent to which the Ogun state government followed its agreement with a Chinese firm and what actions the Ogun state and federal governments took after a UK court ruling prohibited some Nigerian buildings in Liverpool.
He challenged the federal government to come clean and be transparent on the matter, saying that the incident has opened up aspects of indiscipline and abuse of the rule of law in the country. Obi demanded answers on how Nigeria got to this international mess and called for accountability and transparency in government dealings.
