Cyclist Fined for Romantic Gesture: Tour de France Rider Slapped With Hefty Fine For Kissing Wife
In a surprising turn of events at the Tour de France, professional cyclist, Simon Clarke, was fined by race officials for a heartfelt gesture – kissing his wife. The Australian rider, who competes for the Israel-PremierTech team, was
slapped with a fine of 1,000 Swiss francs (approximately $1,070) for breaking strict rules governing the race.
The incident occurred during Stage 10 of the prestigious cycling event, when Clarke crossed the finish line in Morzine, France. Overcome with emotion and excitement, he spontaneously leaned over and kissed his wife, Paula, who was standing by the barriers. The tender moment was captured on camera and quickly went viral on social media.
However, race officials were less than impressed, deeming the display of affection a violation of the race’s strict protocols. According to the Tour de France’s rules, riders are prohibited from engaging in any behavior deemed
“un sporting” or “contrary to the image of cycling.” While the specific rule governing Clarke’s actions is not explicitly stated, officials apparently deemed the kiss a breach of these guidelines.
Clarke’s fine has sparked debate among fans and fellow cyclists, with many questioning the severity of the punishment. Some have even gone so far as to label the decision “overly harsh” and “out of touch” with the sport’s values.
Despite the backlash, race officials remain firm in their stance, insisting that the rules are in place to maintain the integrity and professionalism of the event.

It was a night of glamour and excitement as the Austin Branch of the People’s Club of Nigeria International (PCNI) held its end of year party on Saturday, November 30, 2024.Diaspora Watch reports that the well-attended event, which took place at Wingate by Wyndham Round Rock Hotel and Conference Center, Texas, was a celebration of the branch’s achievements and a show of appreciation to God for His blessings throughout the year.
