Kamala Harris Counts On Sorority Sisters For Support In Election Bid

Vice President Kamala Harris is turning to a unique and powerful network of supporters in her bid for the presidency: her sorority sisters. As a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA), one of the nine historically Black Greek letter organizations (HGLOs) collectively known as the Divine Nine, Harris is tapping into a vast network of over four million members who are ready to mobilize and get to work electing her.

The Divine Nine, comprising Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Iota Phi Theta, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta, has a long history of civic engagement, community service, and political activism. Members of these organizations have played significant roles in shaping American history, from the Civil Rights Movement to the present day.

Harris’s sorority sisters are eager to support her candidacy, citing her commitment to issues affecting the Black community and her trailblazing legacy as the first Black woman to serve as Vice President. “We are proud to call Kamala our soror,” said an AKA member. “She embodies the values of our organization, and we are excited to support her in this election.”

AKA members are already mobilizing, with local chapters hosting events, rallies, and voter registration drives. Social media is abuzz with sorority sisters sharing messages of support, using hashtags such as #AKAforKamala and #DivineNineforHarris.

The Divine Nine’s support extends beyond AKA, with members of other organizations also rallying behind Harris. “We recognize the significance of Kamala’s candidacy and the impact it will have on our communities,” said a member of Delta Sigma Theta. “We are united in our support for her.”

Harris’s campaign is actively engaging with the Divine Nine, recognizing the potential of this vast network to mobilize voters and drive turnout. “We are grateful for the support of the Divine Nine,” said a campaign spokesperson. “Their commitment to civic engagement and community service aligns with Kamala’s values, and we look forward to working together to elect her.”

As the election season heats up, Harris’s sorority sisters will be crucial in getting out the vote, particularly in key battleground states with significant Black populations. Their efforts will be instrumental in mobilizing voters and ensuring that Harris’s message resonates with the communities she seeks to serve.

In a crowded field of candidates, Harris’s unique connection to the Divine Nine sets her apart. Her sorority sisters are ready to work tirelessly to ensure her success, driven by a shared commitment to sisterhood, service, and the pursuit of excellence.

As one AKA member succinctly put it, “We have got Kamala’s back. We’ll be there every step of the way, working to elect our soror and make history.”
