Renowned British Zoologist Sentenced To 10 Years For Horrific Animal Abuse And Child Exploitation
A shocking case of animal cruelty and child exploitation has led to the sentencing of Adam Britton, a 53-year-old British zoologist, to 10 years and five months in an Australian prison. Britton, a leading expert on crocodiles featured on BBC and National Geographic, pleaded guilty to 56 charges of bestiality, animal cruelty, and accessing child abuse material.
The Northern Territory Supreme Court heard graphic details of Britton’s crimes, which included filming himself torturing dozens of dogs, resulting in nearly all of their deaths. He shared the disturbing videos online under pseudonyms and even coached others on how to emulate his behavior.
Britton’s abuse went undetected for years until a clue in one of his videos led to his arrest in April 2022. A search of his property uncovered child abuse material on his laptop, and he was subsequently charged.
Chief Justice Michael Grant described Britton’s actions as “depravity that falls outside any ordinary human conception.” Britton’s lawyer argued that his client’s actions were driven by a rare disorder causing intense, atypical sexual interests.
Britton, who moved to Australia over 20 years ago to work with crocodiles, will be eligible for parole in April 2028 and is banned from owning any mammals for life. The case has sparked widespread outrage and raised concerns about the detection and prevention of animal abuse and child exploitation.
