Timeless Love: Kenyan Couple Weds In Church 60 Years After Falling In Love
In a heartwarming testament to enduring love, a 95-year-old Kenyan man and his 90-year-old long-time partner tied the knot this past weekend, six decades after their love story first began. The couple, Ibrahim Mbogo and Tabitha Wangui, exchanged vows in a memorable white wedding ceremony on Sunday, August 18, at a church in Mukurweini, a small town located about three hours northeast of Nairobi, Kenya’s bustling capital.
The pair’s love story dates back to 1960 when they first met and fell in love. Despite being married according to Kikuyu customs, which are recognized as legally binding in their culture, Mbogo and Wangui decided that after all these years, they wanted to solidify their union with a church wedding—a significant gesture reflecting their shared Christian faith.
“We met and fell in love in 1960, can you believe it?” Mbogo shared with a smile as he stood outside the church, surrounded by family and well-wishers. “We deliberated together and decided it would be wonderful to have a white wedding. While our Kikuyu customs consider us legally married, as Christians, we felt it was important to have a church wedding.”

The wedding ceremony was as elegant as it was sentimental. Mbogo looked dapper in a grey suit and silver tie, embodying the timelessness of their love. Wangui, equally radiant, wore a cream brocade jacket over a white dress, topped with a stylish white hat, embodying grace and dignity.
When asked about the secret to their long-lasting relationship, Wangui offered simple but profound advice: “Women, you must respect your husbands. If you do that, you can enjoy a long and fulfilling marriage like ours.”
Their story serves as a beautiful reminder that love knows no bounds and that it’s never too late to celebrate it in the grandest of ways.
