Ukraine Captures Over 150 Russian POWs In Cross-Border Operation

Ukraine has captured more than 150 Russian prisoners of war in a single day during its cross-border military operation, according to Oleksii Drozdenko, the head of the military administration in Sumy. The operation, which is the first of “several stages” in taking the fight to Moscow, has seen Ukrainian forces make significant gains, with only 15 casualties reported on the first day.
Drozdenko noted that many of the Russian troops guarding the border are young conscripts who “do not want to fight us.” Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, has announced plans to increase the country’s “exchange fund” to swap for POWs held by Russia.
The operation has seen the use of new tactics, including the targeting of bridges in Russian territory, in an effort to gain more territory. Ukraine has released videos of its air force blowing holes in bridges over the Seym River in Kursk province, complicating Russian reinforcement efforts.
The humanitarian situation in the occupied area is also being addressed, with Ukraine organizing transports of food and medicine to Russian civilians. However, no Russian civilians have fled across the border to become refugees in Ukraine.

We also examine the intricate relationships between diaspora, globalization, and power, as seen in the impact of USAID funds on terrorism, including Boko Haram, and the freezing of mineral exports in Malawi.
