Senator Sani Reveals Federal Lawmakers’ Monthly Earnings in Nigeria, Contradicts RMAFC’s Claim
Former Senator Shehu Sani has sparked controversy by revealing that he received N13 million monthly as a member of the 8th Senate, while current members of the 10th Senate receive N21 million monthly. This disclosure contradicts the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission’s (RMAFC) claim that Senators earn N1 million each.
Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, spoke on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics, insisting that RMAFC was “being economical with the truth.” He cited a statement from Senator Kawu Ismaila from Kano, confirming that current Senators receive up to N21 million monthly.
During his time in the Senate, Sani said he was driven by his conscience as an activist to unveil the long-secret earnings of legislators. He believes taxpayers have the right to know how much their legislators earn and receive.
Sani’s revelation has sparked debate, with many Nigerians calling for transparency in the earnings of federal lawmakers. The former lawmaker’s stance is clear: there is no need to deceive Nigerians or cover up the truth, especially when it comes to public money
